Rumsfeld accused of war crimes
Isabelle Hontebeyrie
It appears that the Centre for Constitutional Rights (CCR) filed a complaint against Donald Rumsfeld and other high-ranking United States civilian and military officials with the German Federal Prosecutor's Office.
Based in New York, the CCR filed its complaint in November (copy in PDF), over the abuses at Abu Ghraib prison and elsewhere in Iraq.
According to Al-Jazeera, Rumsfeld has cancelled his trip to Germany, where he was scheduled to attend the Munich Security Conference in February.
"The Centre for Constitutional Rights said it and four Iraqis allegedly tortured in US custody filed a complaint with German authorities against Rumsfeld, former CIA director George Tenet and eight other senior military and civilian officials over abuses at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere in Iraq. The organisation said it had turned to German prosecutors "as a court of last resort" because the US government "is unwilling to open an independent investigation" and had "refused to join the International Criminal Court"."

...Because, of course, something an entirely different group of people did sixty years ago means that the current government is above and outside the law...

How ironic and pathetic...Germany prosecuting a US minister, all this for the 60 st anniversaire of liberation from the Nazis.
