Americans like their penny
Isabelle Hontebeyrie
According to a Harris Interactive poll, almost six out of ten (59%) adults oppose abolishing the penny.
The survey also found that approximately a quarter of adults (23%) favor abolishing the penny while another 18% are not sure.
The views are uniform across all groups, for the most part. However, people with lower household incomes (under $25,000) oppose abolishing the penny by slightly greater numbers (62%) than people with higher household incomes ($75,000 or over) (53%).
A news article, found on About.com, indicates that it costs a penny to produce... a penny!
