Filmmaker debunks 'Super Size Me' claim
Isabelle Hontebeyrie

Filmmaker Soso Whaley's 30-day diet of McDonald's meals has neared its halfway point, and not only is she feeling good, she's lost five pounds.

Debunk the Junk, Whaley's documentary project, focusing on personal responsibility, obesity, and public health, is taking on the increasing victim mentality being fostered by public health activists and the dishonest bashing of the fast food industry.

"This experience has taught me not to think of food as good or bad," said Whaley, who's also an adjunct fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. "Food is food, plain and simple. It's not inherently evil, and our only 'problem' is that we have been very successful as a species in learning how to create easily accessible food sources."

Partly inspired by the soon-to-be released film Super Size Me, Whaley is demonstrating how Americans can enjoy their favorite foods and stay healthy once they decide to take control of their own well-being with a balanced approach to nutrition and exercise. The project will also focus on the ridiculous proposition of blaming restaurants and food manufacturers for the obesity and health problems of individual Americans.

At the end of Whaley's 30 days of all-McDonald's meals, she will begin assembling her experience into a documentary film, to be released later this year. Whaley's progress, documented meal by meal and day by day, can be followed online at Debunk the Junk.

Morgan Spurlock Sucks
The science behind the "smoking kills millions" talk is pretty shaky. So are the facts powering the oncoming anit-fast food movement. Morgan Spurlock is smartly riding the wave before it hits. He's the guy who ate all that McDonalds to

I have eaten McDonalds for 45 days and have lost 26.4 pounds. My cholesterol has dropped significantly and I feel great. Not dead yet, Morgan. I have added walking to my diet to offset what Morgan did. Now the results show his gain with no exercise and a loss with exercise. And I am still going! I plan on eating McDonalds for 90 days. Also, I am training for a 60 mile walk for breast cancer research and if you support me in my efforts of putting Morgan in his place, please help me save lives while doing it. I have a sponsor me page where you can donate directly to the 3Day event or downlaod the page and donate via mail. Either way I hope to hear from you. We are having fun, and meeting lots of people. Check out my daily pages and you will see. http://www.mymcdiet.com

What a ridiculous argument, I could sit home and eat nothing but salad in the largest portions possible and I'd BM so much it'd dehydrate me until I died.

You must be smoking crack if you think fast food is anywhere near good for you. You probably get more vitamins and nutrients eating a cowpie than you would a big mac. Screw the fact it makes you fat. Read Fast Food Nation to see how literally filthy the beef is you're consuming. If you don't care about that because it taste so "great", then good luck, it's your funeral.

Very interesting, but it's worth pointing out that it's an apples-to-oranges comparison, which even she acknowledges. The "SuperSize Me" guy ate the largest portions and the fattiest food, while she has been more selective from the menu.

Both are trying to prove a point, and both are correct in the point they wish to make. Their points are not mutually exclusive, which Whaley does not seem to want to own up to.
