Naom Chomsky on Iraq
Isabelle Hontebeyrie
The Canadian analyst doubts the U.S wants freedom for Iraq.
In an interview with the Toronto Star, Chomsky raises the question of the choice Iraqis face: "The issue is, who's going to run Iraq? The struggle is between the steadfast Iraqi demand for democracy and the bitter U.S. insistence on resisting it. "
He outlines the imperialist nature of both Great-Britain and the United-States which "is building the biggest diplomatic mission in the world in Baghdad, with 3,000 people. "
Opponent of the war, Chomsky concludes by saying the only way Iraqis can expect true democracy is if people of invading take a strand : "Will the people in the West pressure their governments to allow Iraqis to have freedom?"
