Elle Mcpherson's ad censored
Isabelle Hontebeyrie
Britain's Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) banned a lingerie

| Elle Mcpherson's censored ad |
ad considered "offensive" after receiving complaints from the public.
The advertisement was published in Vogue and shot by Bendon UK.
It shows the 41 years old ex-model in a bra and panties with her thumb in it.
Apparently, a complaint was filed to ASA by a reader, who found the picture suggested masturbation.
As reported by The Guardian:
The company said the advert, which showed a photograph of the torso and thighs of a woman wearing a bra and knickers with her hands resting on her thighs and crotch, was inspired by the film Rear Window.
They said they had chosen Vogue because it targeted sophisticated female readers and encouraged innovative advertising.
But the ASA upheld the complaint and told Elle McPherson Intimates not to repeat the campaign.
PS: now we know where American puritanism comes from :-) even though Janet had actually shown something!

This ad is disturbing... not because the model seems to be mastrurbating... who cares if shes mastrubating. Its distrubing because its Vogue's "classy and destinguished" recration of a woman being stalked... and also because she's missing her head. When will advertiser stop putting women in violent imagery and stop using women's bodies to sell their (very expensive) products at the expense of the rest of the REAL women who have to deal with society's ignorance about violence against women and unnatural obsession with the female body.

What's wrong with masturbation anyway?

I find the ad company's decision absurd. How can you possibly justify the reader's opinion about Elle's photograph. I happen to think it's very tasteful. For someone to get the idea that it's anything other than that, well, maybe that's their own pervesive thought process. Elle's career has been nothing short of classy and distinguished, I doubt she would shoot a photograph that would depict anyhting that was beneath her.
